Identification of Self – Street style X Parfois

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

Leaning on the idea that how we dress is a reflection of our true selves, is a subject that is debatable. Style has become so pronounced in our society that each of us follow style if we like it or not. We live in a world now where we are all grasping  at the need to be different, not to blend in with everyone else, being different is the new cool. Standing out instead of fitting in is the fashion statement of today.

I love street-style because it stems from the need for individuality, from the desire to be different, appear interesting, and feel like your true authentic self. We never feel like the need to conform in what we wear in our down time or our days off. When we are not dressing for work, a meeting or a specific event etc. we are dressing for ourselves. Marc Jacobs has once said any woman can look amazing in a beautiful gown but it is what a woman wears in her downtime that he admires the most.Street style has taken a strong key position in the fashion industry as it feeds the need for the constant turnaround of new ideas and trends. The concept of street style has gained so much favour through the constant search for new fresh ideas from creatives from all over the world. Each country has their own unique street style that is a reflection of a miss mass of culture, climate, ideals, vibes and the general feel of the city/country.

Another reason why this form of style has progresses to the heights it has is down to our need for to feel individual in a postmodern age characterized by a crises of identity, truth and meaning. The fashion industry has come to increasingly look to “the street” for design inspiration and we see more and more fashion houses are now taking inspiration from the styles they see on the street and the daily visuals they witness from each individual take on fashion as it walks past them rather than to look to art and sculpture solely for inspiration.Style has always been more important to me, more than fashion, and while fashion portrays the illusion that an outfit is new season from a new collection it does not transcend into being automatically fashionable. Street style represents more than just what the eye sees it is an extension and complex mix personal of our personal and philosophical meaning. Our choices of cuts/shapes/colours/ in our garment choices creates a precise conclusion of attitude and personality.

“Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you.” — Ralph Lauren

If I had to choose how I would like to dresses on a daily basis it would consist of layers of pink tulle and biker style ankle boots, an exact mix of my personality warped into an outfit.

Style is your own and street style is turning the stylish vision of yourself into an outfit and the street is you’re unveiling. I have a very specific eye for pieces that I love but that I can also see myself mixing and matching with many different outfit styles. Again and again.

On a recent visit to Brussels Belgium I showcased my favourite street style look, a mix of femininity and rocker/grunge. The focus was on my black patent ankle boots with gold buckles from Parfois.

Parfois is a dream brand for accessories. I fell in love with these boots from the moment I saw them and they completed my street style look to complete a look that is so authentic to everything my style represents.‘Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life.”
